For many of us, the desire for comfort, safety, refuge and security is often overwhelming. One of our biggest flaws as humans is the inclination to play it safe or the gravitation towards the path of least resistance. We are more fearful than we are courageous and in turn become limited instead of limitless.

‘You either rise to meet the mental demands and physical rigours of a challenge, or you succumb to them.’

For many of us, the desire for comfort, safety, refuge and security is often overwhelming. One of our biggest flaws as humans is the inclination to play it safe or the gravitation towards the path of least resistance. We are more fearful than we are courageous and in turn become limited instead of limitless.

Challenges have an amazing impact on human performance for the simple fact that our bodies were built to adapt and respond to whatever demands we place upon it. I’ve experienced this idea first hand, particularly when it comes to injuries. I’ve had countless injuries throughout the years due to rigorous physical training and have found that the stronger the demand I place on my body, the stronger it responds to repair itself and work harder.

Adventure racing is a solo or team-based endurance challenge that integrates multiple disciplines into a single event, over a long period of time and over rugged terrain, like un-groomed trails or through rocky streams etc.  The sport owes its origins to multi-discipline activities like triathlons. Adventure racing is designed to test participants’ physical and mental endurance as well as skills in various disciplines which can include: running, mountain biking, rucking, rock climbing, paddling, navigating, swimming and so on. Some adventure races, include tasks to be carried out at checkpoints in addition to the other disciplines involved.

So why the f*** would anyone do this? Three words…. for the challenge. And for the opportunity to take our physical and mental fitness to the extreme heights. This is precisely why on November 10th our team will be participating in our very first adventure race. Follow us here: @repetitions_fitness to see our journey!
